Philosophy

DELTA’s philosophy is based on the following principles:

• All people are born free to exercise their equal rights and to fulfil their hopes irrespective of ethnic origin, religious affiliation, gender or physical ability. These rights are inherent in our common humanity and may not be denied or taken away from anyone.

• The values of justice, peace, freedom and cooperation are at the heart of any genuine human development process.

• All people are called to transform their personal lives, the lives of their community, their environment and the wider society.

• Recognising the energy and potential within each person and each community can empower them to contribute fully to the process of building new societies where all people’s fundamental human needs are met.

• Participation empowers individuals and groups to influence the processes of change that affect their lives and their communities economically, socially, culturally and politically.

• The right to participate is the basis for any democratic system rooted in the aspirations of all. Genuine inter-ethnic societies and cultures require open identities that understand differences as mutually enriching values.
