The main training program takes place in a series of phases spread over a period of about eight months. Each phase comprises a training workshop followed by a period of practical fieldwork where participants use and test skills and insights gained during the training workshop. As far as possible, participants are in ethnically and gender-balanced teams and carry out inter-phase fieldwork within the framework of their organization’s programs.
Shorter specialised programs cater for specific needs of an organization or institution, e.g. training workshops for youth, nurse trainers in Kosovo’s Ministry of Health, an extended training program in democracy and human rights for people with disability or workshops with Caritas and other faith-based groups.
DELTA’s programs focus on the following themes and skills’ training:
• Human rights and participatory democracy
• Approaches and techniques that engage people in their own development
• Philosophy and methods of Paulo Freire
• Culture and development
• Histories and ‘identities’ in the Balkans
• Groupwork skills – communication, leadership and decision-making
• Cross-cultural and inter-ethnic dialogue
• Participatory survey methods
• Tools for social, economic and cultural analysis
• Group and organizational development
• Participatory action planning, monitoring and evaluation techniques
